Summer Zoomin':

Back to the Basics of Joy

June 3rd - 6th, 2021

As many of you know, Mazda created the Miata with simplicity and pure joy as the core of its mission. This year, for our summer Zoomin', we will embody that same spirit of simplicity, fun, and joy as the core of our event. While the pandemic this year has required us to approach this year's event a bit differently than we have in recent years, we have taken this opportunity to embrace the simplicity of driving fun, good times with friends, and the communal love of exploration and the open road as our theme.

This year, we will not be running track laps at Bristol. While we hope to get back to the track in future events, this year we will be focusing on exploring the beautiful roads of the Great Smoky Mountains. We are in the process of planning these drives; and if you have attended Zoomin' events in the past, you know these mountain roads deliver the joy of zoomin' like no others! Mark your calendars! Zoom-Zoom!

2021 Summer Zoomin' Registration

In keeping with our theme of simplicity and fun, we are making registration and participation in events a simple registration process for you. Some participants drive solo, and some participants come as a pair. Therefore, registration will be one flat rate if you are driving solo, and a different flat rate if you are arriving as a pair. Registration covers:

  • Your Miata registration to the event

  • 3 meals per person during the course of the event

  • Annual cornhole tournament

  • Annual Shine & Show

All proceeds from Zoomin', after covering minimum administrative costs, go directly to charity. Everyone who has a part in putting this event together is doing so by donating their time and expertise to making sure we have a safe and fun time. We do this so that we can enjoy the spirit of the togetherness of Zoomin, share in the cars we love, and to give to those in need. We very much appreciate your participation!!

2021 Summer Zoomin' Drives and Events

Now here's the fun part - the driving, the cameraderie, and the events!

First, some housekeeping:

Please consider bringing the following items with you, both for your own comfort, and for some fun:

  • Snacks and Drinks for the drives.

  • FRS Radios make for a more enjoyable experience, so that we can communicate with one another during the drives.

  • A chair for comfortable socializing. Several of our group gatherings will be in open lots with the cars.

  • An umbrella or two, our events go on, rain or shine!

  • Facemasks - some establishments along our routes may still require facemasks before entering their facilities. This includes mercy break (nature) stops. While we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this pandemic, it is important that we still do our part to protect one another, and to respect the businesses and communities we will be visiting.

  • A picture of your very first Miata (even if that is the one you bring!) We will be displaying them on a board for all to see.

  • For those of you who have attended Zoomin events of yore, bring the shirt you got at your very first Zoomin event.

Second, The Drives:

The area around the Zoomin' home base of Johnson City has some of the best driving roads in the country, suited perfectly for our Miatas. The drives typically last most of the day, so be sure to be fueled up, and check the schedule for the day to find out where we will be going that day. Some things to note as you prepare for the day's drive:

  • Check the schedule for the time and place to meet for the pre-drive meeting.

  • Have plenty of fuel in your Miata before the meeting. Many participants find it easiest to have fueled up the evening before the next day's run.

  • Zero out your trip odometer as you leave. the meeting with the group. The route instructions you will be given will contain mile marker points.

  • Headlights on during drives! This way we can keep visual track of each other during the drives, and other motorists are more aware that we are traveling as a group.

  • Keep a safe, but manageable distance between the car in front, and the car behind you. This helps keep the group together. If you see the car behind you begin to lag, try to slow down some so that we all remain traveling together. This helps us all to maintain a comfortable, fun, and safe pace.

Third, The Events:

As much as we love zoomin' our Miatas all over the mountains, we also like to kick back and relax with some non-driving fun!

  • Cornhole tournament: Every year at Zoomin, we like to kick back and socialize with a cornhole tournament. Grab a partner, or someone else's partner, and join us! It will be a single elimination tournament, and the winning pair will get the bragging rights of being the summer Zoomin' event's champion for the entire year!

  • Shine & Show: We're all proud of our Miatas, so let's show them off! Get out your cleaning and detailing supplies, and shine that ride! Categories will award winners to each generation: NA (90-97), NB (99-05), NC (06-15), and ND (16-present). Then, there will be a best-in-show awarded, so put your best wheel forward! This year, we are being graciously hosted by Maple Street Biscuit Company for our first ever "Cars & Coffee"-themed Shine & Show!

  • Door prizes: Tickets will be available for on-site purchase in order to enter into a door prize drawing. Give yourself a chance to bring home some swag!

  • 50/50 Raffle: Enter to win some cash! For every dollar entered into the raffle, half will go to charity, and the other half will go to one lucky winner! You may buy as many tickets as you wish.
